SSH, which is an abbreviation for Secure Shell, is a network protocol that's used to transfer encoded information between a client and a website hosting server, which makes it impossible for unauthorized parties to intercept any information. Many tech-savvy clients prefer SSH because of the enhanced security level. The connection is established and the commands are sent via a command line. The available options depend on the type of Internet hosting service - on a shared server, for example, files may be transferred or deleted, databases may be imported and exported, and archives may be set up or unpacked. On a virtual or a dedicated server, your choices are considerably more - the web server and the database server could be started/stopped/rebooted, server-side software could be set up and more. These things aren't possible on a shared server, for the reason that full root access is needed and all the other clients on that server will be affected. While SSH is employed mainly with UNIX-like OSs, there are SSH clients for other OSs as well - Windows, Mac OS, and so on.

SSH Telnet in Shared Web Hosting

SSH access is available with all Linux shared web hosting packages that we offer you. With some of them, it's featured by default, while with others it's an additional upgrade you can add with a couple of clicks in your web hosting CP. You may get SSH access through the section dedicated to it where you shall also find the information that you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You may choose the password which you shall use and, if required, you will be able to change it with a couple of mouse clicks from the same place. All commands that can be used with our shared packages are listed in a help article together with relevant examples. If the SSH access feature is enabled for your account, you shall also be able to upload files through your favorite FTP client via an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Hosting

SSH access is offered as standard with some of our semi-dedicated server solutions, while with others you may add it from the hosting Control Panel if necessary - even just for the current month. In any case, you can activate and de-activate the function with just one mouse click through the SSH section of the CP. In the same location, you will see the server name, the port number and the username required to connect to our platform. You will also find a box in which you can easily enter the password that you'd like to use, as it doesn't need to be the same as the one you use to log into the Control Panel. For better security, you may also change it as much as you want. The full list of the commands which can be performed inside a semi-dedicated account is provided in our Knowledge Base, along with the syntax and a few instances. An extra function after SSH access is allowed shall be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP using any FTP client that supports this sort of connections.
